The Sky is Falling
These characters were designed as part of a visual development project based on a Lithuanian folk tale called 'The Sky is Falling'.
It is about a cat who gets spooked by a cabbage leaf falling on its tail, thinking it’s the sky that’s falling on him. He runs off and meets other animals along the way including the rabbit, the fox, the wolf and the bear. He warns them about the falling sky, and they all continue running together. Once the group reaches the bear, she figures out what really happened and sends them all back home.

This project was aimed at an audience with the age range of 0-6 so I used bright primary colours, simple shapes and textures.
I painted five A2 sheets of paper in different colours for each character and scanned them to use digitally. I used a mask to make them look like they were cut out from this paper. I also took inspiration from the patterns on weaved sashes that are used as belts on traditional Lithuanian clothes and added patterns onto the characters' bodies.
Sweet Dreams
This character was designed as part of a visual development project based on a dream world. After falling asleep she wakes up in the dream world and starts to explore the different environments.

Princess and Witch
These are some character designs I did as part of my college course. I designed twin sisters who have opposite personalities and styles - a princess and a witch. Their most noticeable differences are their warm and cold, bright and dark, colour palettes and a difference in the shapes they're made of.
Below I have experimented with different lighting conditions on both characters including pale lighting, moonlight at night and sunset lighting.

Below are their character turnarounds consisting just of lineart. I started designing their bodies with simple shapes and made many variations of dresses that would suit them. The princess is full of soft, round shapes while the witch has more pointy triangular shapes.

Before designing the bodies I created many designs of the heads and experimented with different face shapes and hairstyles. I drew different versions of hats and tiaras. I mixed and matched parts of the exploratory drawings to achieve a final design I was satisfied with.
